Fukushima Snow Resort

We took a day trip up to Fukushima state above our state of Tochigi. It was about a 2.5 hour drive to get there. We left around 7:30am and got there a little after 10am. We went to a ski resort called Grandeco.

There was actually no snow around the base of the mountain, but as we drove up, there started to get more and more snow. Caroline understood what we were going to go do, but Nathan did not want to be in the car. Until we started driving through tunnels through the mountains. Then we started seeing the snow, and more snow, and he got more and more into it. There was around 3 feet of snow at the resort.

There was a nice little kids hill that we spent all day on. Caroline was awesome going up and down the hill by herself all day long. And she even did a great job learning to ski. She was so focused and when she fell, she kept getting back up and trying again. I was really impressed. Nathan loved the Strider bikes with skis on the bottom. The kids area was great because they just had a ton of snow toys for anyone to just grab. Sleds, Strider bikes, tubes, snow mobile looking things. They also had two bouncy house slides. The kids really stayed busy all day. Until the moment the workers turned off the escalator to go up the hill, which was at 4pm and honestly a great time to pack up and head home.

We actually went with a friend from work so he and his wife watched the kids for us while Heather and I got to go down the mountain together! We had only ever been on Mad River Mountain so this was amazing compared to that. The pictures just really can’t do it justice. The gondola ride up took a good 10 minutes and the ski down took almost 30 minutes. We kept stopping on the way down though to take in the view. So that added to the time.

Then here are some videos as well. One of them is Caroline blasting a little kid while riding the tube. Its America’s Funniest Home Videos worthy.
