Our Garden Plot
One of the school activities for the year is that we get to plant a garden in the nearby farm. We were allotted a 3ft x 6ft plot. It is the kids’ responsibility to go over and check on it, water it, and weed it throughout the season.
First we went over to scope out our land last Saturday. The school had all the plots marked out for everyone.
Then we went to the store to buy some pre-started plants since we didn’t prepare anything. And we went back on Sunday evening to plant our stuff. The kids each picked out three plants. Nathan got Basil, Peppers, and Red Cherry Tomatoes. Caroline got Red Cherry Tomatoes, Yellow Cherry Tomatoes, and Cilantro. They did great digging their holes and planting their vegetables.
We live so close to the farm that we could just walk to our house to fill up a pot of water and take it over to water our plants.
Just to show the proximity of the farm to our house, I took a short video of the walk.
We also had to make signs for our garden. The kids worked really hard on them and they really turned out great.
Then on Wednesday we took over our finished signs and claimed our land.
Now we just have to take care of it! I think it will be a fun school project.
