Authentic Udon at the Park
Heather had learned about a cool park in our state about 45 minutes to the south, so we decided to drive down on Sunday morning.
Nathan found a rusted out fire engine that he didn’t want to get out of. And Caroline played on the playground.
We walked around and found a cool path through a lily pad field/pond.
Then we fed some fish…
We found a hill with a giant cherry blossom tree on top of it. Of course the flowers are no longer in bloom. They built a deck on top of the hill surrounding the tree. It felt like we were high up in a cherry blossom tree house actually. It was pretty cool.
Then at the end of our visit, we found a really awesome Udon shop. They had tatami floors and you had to take your shoes off and sit on the floor. This was the kids first time at a Japanese style restaurant. They were very well behaved and didn’t spill anything on the tatami flooring. I was pretty nervous about that. It was a hot day, but somehow tatami rooms like this always have the perfect airflow and keep you cool. Its one of my favorite things about Japan. There was an old guy in a window making all the noodles from scratch. I’m not a huge connoisseur of Udon, but this was pretty delicious stuff. I don’t think the kids appreciated it, but it was the highlight of Heather and I’s day.
Then we went home to do some yard work. Ugh.
