Brewer Family Re-Assemble!

Heather and the kids made it! Alex and Heather said the kids were great and the trip was not bad at all. They had first class on the small plane from Columbus to Chicago. Literally the front four seats in the plane. They were given dirty looks by some of the passengers as they walked past and saw a 2 year old and a 4 year old occupying the first class seats.

Then, once they arrived to Chicago, they had access to the business class lounge while they waited on their connecting flight. That gave the kids the freedom to roam and give Heather and Alex a little bit of relief. Plus they got crepes and fruit and omelettes all for free. Much better than waiting at the next gate for 2 hours with a ton of people around. So that got the long leg of the trip off to a good start.

After that, they all made it to their gate and boarded the plane with no problems. The kids got all settled into their giant seats in business class and were great about not getting out of their seats and about not pushing all the buttons to adjust the seat. They just sat and watched movies and slept the entire flight. They were the best kids ever on a 13 hours flight.

I arrived to the airport around 1:30pm because Dom’s flight was supposed to land at 2pm and the family’s flight was landing at 2:30pm. So I stood in front of the South Gate for international arrivals waiting for them to come through.

Of course Dom came through first because his flight landed first. Then Alex came through because she didn’t have any extra paperwork to fill out. Finally after Heather received her and the kids’ Japan residence cards, they made it through customs and onto the other side! Dom was able to snag a pic from a distance.

So finally the family was back together after three long weeks. But we still had about 4 more hours of travel to get through. But even though the kids were tired, they were still so great and loved going through train stations and riding on the Shinkansen bullet train.

Finally around 7pm we made it to our house! The kids loved their rooms. Nathan got re-acquainted with his Corvette bed, and Caroline was happy to see her vanity with all the stuff she left in the drawers in America still there.

So we are now home for the next 18 months.
